Rachel Carson is accountable for the persistent entry of millions of African children to early graves.

Despite Rachel Carson’s fundamental contributions to the reduction of potential risks linked to DDT and other toxic chemical contaminants, the scientific exaggeration of Silent Spring brought unforgettable miseries experienced in the continent of Africa. The scientific discovery and introduction of lifesaving DDT led to the minimization of increased malarial deaths among children in the developing countries, particularly Africa and Asia continents.
The DDT was used to kill anopheles mosquitoes responsible for the transmission of malaria.
To reduce the malarial epidemic in Africa, the application of DDT, including indoor and outdoor spraying, drastically decreased rates of malaria, minimized hundreds of million deaths among African children. The DDT significantly proved to kill insect-borne diseases, which saved millions of African human lives.

The banning of DDT subjected millions of African children to see precisely the death of humanity. According to the World Health Organization’s study findings conducted in 2010, over 600,000 people, especially children, in African continent died from malaria.
The banning of the applications of DDT resulted in increased spread of malaria and continual death of African children, despite introduction of antimalarial medications that progressively appear ineffective to eradicate the malarial causing vector. We currently have multiple generations of antimalarial drugs because of persistence resistant of the malarial-causing vector. Thus, the poor million Africans become the victims of human politics and monetary prioritization. The human life in poor African continent has become insignificant over material demands. The poor are victimized and left to dig their own graves. Thus, Silent Spring brought unforgettable miseries to certain segments of humanity.

Prohibition of DDT also has led to economic burden. For instance, the United States spends approximately $200 million annually to control malaria through antimalarial medications and other insecticides to treat bed nets. Unfortunately, these intervention strategies seem ineffective compared to DDT.

Rachel Carson is responsible for the malarial epidemic in Africa, where over millions of children and adults die from malaria annually. In other words, the introduction and perception of Carson’s Silent Spring account for the annual deaths of over 80 to 90 percent of African children. Thus, Rachel Carson is responsible for the disastrous consequences that Silent Spring brought to humanity.
